Communities across Arun come together to honour the fallen

TOWNS and villages across Arun will fall silent as communities gather to remember those who died in two world wars and other conflicts.

Remembrance Sunday services and parades are again likely to attract large crowds, continuing the growth in attendance in recent years, and on Monday, Armistice Day, many people will observe the nationwide two minutes’ silence.

Commemorations in the Gazette area on Sunday include:

LITTLEHAMPTON – 10.45am, parade of service organisations, youth and community groups, councillors and other community leaders from the Town Clock, along the pedestrian precinct and Beach Road to the war memorial, for a brief service, with The Last Post, two minutes’ silence at 11am, Reveille, and wreath laying, before the main service at St Mary’s Church.

On Monday, Armistice Day, the two minutes’ silence will be observed at the Littlehampton war memorial.

ANGMERING – 10.40am, service at St Margaret’s Church; 12.10pm, commemoration at the war memorial.

ARUNDEL – 10.50am, service at the war memorial, including representatives of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, service organisations, youth and community groups, councillors and schools.

EAST PRESTON/KINGSTON – 10.45am, service at St Mary’s, East Preston; noon, commemoration at East Preston war memorial; 12.30pm, service at Kingston war memorial.

FORD – 12.30pm, service at Memorial Garden, Yapton Road.

RUSTINGTON – 9.45am, service at the parish church; 11am, commemoration at the war memorial.

l Charges in car parks managed by Arun will be suspended from 9am-1pm on Sunday to allow people attending services to park for free.
