Police investigate linked burglaries across West Sussex

Police are appealing for information after four burglaries at properties across West Sussex over a three-day period, with the incidents being treated as linked.

The burglaries took place between October 13 and 15, with jewellery and other items reported stolen from the properties, according to Sussex Police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “It is understood that the burglaries took place at an address in Lurgashall, Petworth at around 1pm on October 13, addresses in Church Lane, Horsted Keynes, Haywards Heath, and Horsham Road, Steyning between 8 and 9pm on October 13, and an address in Stall House Lane, North Heath, Pulborough between 7 and 8pm on October 15.

“During all four burglaries, the properties had been broken into via a first-floor window and a number of items including jewellery were taken from the addresses.

“Officers are conducting ongoing investigations and encourage anyone who has any information which could aid enquiries to report it to us online, or by calling 101 quoting Operation Summit.”

Alongside the appeal, police have issued advice to help residents protect their homes from potential break-ins.

Residents are advised to ensure all windows and doors are secured on every floor when not in use. Homeowners with sash windows are also encouraged to consider fitting sash stops and key-operated locks.

Other recommended measures include installing motion-sensor external lighting, using motion-activated cameras that send alerts to a smartphone, and fitting an accredited burglar alarm with sensors on upper floors.

Police also advise storing valuables, including high-value jewellery, in a wall- or floor-mounted, fire-rated safe.

Further guidance is available through the Sussex Police website under its crime prevention advice.

Anyone who sees something suspicious is encouraged to call 101. In an emergency, or if a burglary is taking place, call 999.
