At a full meeting of Arun District Council last night (Wednesday, November 6) members agreed to give St Modwen a 15-month extension to December 2015 to come up with plans which would see £40m ploughed into the town.

The developer said it wanted more time to conduct preparatory work.

The proposed scheme would see the centre’s Alexandra Theatre increased from some 360 seats to 430-450 seats.

The improvements would also include a new foyer and atrium and a transformed external appearance.

About 12 bars and cafes overlooking the sea are also anticipated, along with about 80 flats and a hotel.

Only vague details are known about the Hothamton site off The Queensway.

They are said to be housing and retail uses and a decked car park.

For a special report on the meeting see the Bognor Regis Observer out on Thursday, November 14.
