Dozens of giraffes are coming to Horsham for half term fun

Over the coming weeks dozens of giraffes will start to appear in and around Horsham town centre - but don’t be alarmed, it’s all for a good cause, in fact, many good causes.

Local businesses, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Spofforths, Sony and Mr Simms, have purchased 50 of the long necked models in order to decorate them and auction them off for charity.

First though, all of the colourful creatures will be available for people to gawp and wonder at on Horsham’s gigantic Giraffe Trail taking place from Saturday October 26 to November 9.

Neville, pictured opposite with artist Lucy Ames from Partners in Art, is the first of many presently being painted and preened by companies and charity partners before being released onto an unsuspecting Horsham public.

They in turn have the chance to win prizes by completing the Giraffe Trail - the latest fundraising initiative by the Rotary Club of Horsham, with support from Horsham Unlimited, Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council.

Aside from the charity auctions which will take pace in November, the trail itself will raise some money, as well as Giraffe ‘away days’ to other towns.

On October 31, the BBC’s Pudsey bear supporting Children in Need, will be joining the long necked lollipers in some special Hallowe’en celebrations.

The event forms part of Horsham’s annual Hallowe’en Town Centre Festival which attracts thousands of visitors to the town centre each year.

The three-days of festivities run from Thursday to Saturday during the October Half Term week. A traditional fun fair fills the town centre with festive fun, with live music, comedy street theatre, and of course spooky Hallowe’en entertainment providing more family fun.
