Flood alert for Combe Haven and River Rother

Flood alerts are in place for the River Rother and Combe Haven this morning (Wednesday, January 27).

The alert for the River Rother and it’s tributaries from Turks Bridge to the Royal Military Canal include Crowhurst Bridge, Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Salehurst and Bodiam.

The Environment Agency says water levels in the upper stretches of the River Rother could rise sharply this morning, but flooding is expected to be limited to low lying land close to the river. No property flooding has been forecast,

Meanwhile those living in the area near Combe Haven and the Powdermill and Watermill streams are being urged to “take precautions” to reduce the impacts of possible flooding.

The Environment Agency said: “The Combe Haven catchment around Crowhurst remains saturated and will respond quickly to any significant rainfall.”

It added: “Residents should take precautionary measures now to reduce the impacts of possible flooding.

“More rain is forecast for later in the week and we will continue to monitor the situation and will issue Flood Warnings if property flooding is expected.”
