Housing protesters warn of escalation

Campaigners against the 850-home Titnore Lane development in Worthing burnt effigies of John Prescott on Sunday in protest at government planning policies.

More than 100 protesters gathered for a public meeting in Durrington on Sunday where they heard from former county councillors, wildlife experts and members of amenity groups all of whom were critical of the government's environmental, housing and transport policies.

The meeting was organised by campaign group Protect Our Woodland, headed by John Clark who has lived in Worthing for 61 years.

"Worthing is being ruined by bad planning and bad management," he said:

"The general feeling on Sunday was one of anger '“ people are really upset and feel they are not being listened to."

A lot of anger has been generated after the requests for a public inquiry into the development were refused in July.
