Learn how to become a key part of Littlehampton’s community

PEOPLE keen on making a difference in their community are being urged by one Littlehampton-based charity to rally together.

The Arun and Chichester Citizens’ Advice Bureaux (CAB), in Anchor Springs, will be hosting its own recruitment day, next week.

The event will be a way for people to see the inner workings of the centre, which offers countless people assistance in a wide range of issues – from legal advice, to volunteering with the CAB or other good causes.

The day will be taking place on Friday (November 8) at the Littlehampton Girlguiding Centre, in Duke Street, between 10am and 2pm.

Elliott Weights, financial capability adviser at the centre, said volunteering had played a pivotal role in his life.

“I got such a buzz from helping people and the good outcomes I was able to achieve for them, that I started to get more involved in working as part of the bureau team,” he explained. “I soon trained to become an adviser and quickly got a taste for giving debt advice to clients and helping people who were less capable of helping themselves.

“It was at the end of my second year of volunteering that I gained my first paid job with the CAB working 14 hours giving advice at probation offices, and this later increased to 21 hours.

“More recently I have managed to gain full time employment with the CAB doing something I enjoy – financial capability.

“Volunteering at the CAB has helped me decide my career path, improve my job prospects and my people skills and has given me a worthwhile cause.”

Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be offered.
