Man struck by car after petrol station row

Two groups of people are believed to have been involved in the clash on the forecourt outside Tesco Express on Battle Hill, Battle, at 7.45pm on Monday (October 14).

As one woman tried to flee the scene, she apparently struck a 30-year-old man, breaking his ankle and causing an injury to his hand.

The man, from Burwash, was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings for treatment.

Two women received minor injuries in the altercation and were also taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said all three were placed on spinal boards as a precaution.

One person who witnessed the aftermath of the incident told the Observer: “There were people on the ground and police everywhere.

“It looked like something major.”

A 30-year-old Netherfield woman, thought to have been driving the car which hit the man, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and dangerous driving.

The woman was questioned by police before being released on bail until a later date.

As part of her bail conditions, the woman was told she must not enter the county of Sussex.

Two other people have also been arrested in connection with the incident, questioned and released on police bail.

No charges have been brought.
