Experienced illustrator Carol Lawson took on the challenge and the tins are out in stores now.

Carol has created artwork for a variety of packaging including a Harrod’s Christmas hamper, a musical carousel biscuit tin for Fortnum & Mason, a painting of a portly pig dressed as John Bull for ‘Mr Trotter’ pork crackling and beer, a ‘Dutch Old Master’ painting for cheese packaging and various Christmas tins for Marks and Spencer .

Carol said: “The first ‘royal baby tin I illustrated was to commemorate the birth of Prince George in 2013, followed by the current one for Princess Charlotte.

“The tins cannot go into production until both the gender and the names of the baby are known, so the colours I use in the illustration have to be designed to work with either blue or pink as a background.”

Carol’s artwork together with pieces by her illustrator husband Chris formed an exhibition in Rottingdean last week.

It featured original paintings, prints, cards and glass work.

It included her pastel painting of the South Downs and an illustration of a book jacket for the Jungle Book.
