Operation Crackdown streamlined

James Stobart from Sussex Police’s vehicle recovery unit gave a presentation at Steyning Parish Council.

He explained the system for reporting anti-social driving had been around since 2007 but it had recently been improved.

Operation Crackdown is aimed at low-level, anti-social driving, such a speeding, tailgating and undertaking.

Mr Starr said: “On the old system, it was eight pages to fill out a report, on this system it is a concertina system.

“We have streamlined it an awful lot now. It is a lot clearer than the old system used to be.”

From November, the system will be directly linked to the police national computer. This and other changes would really speed up the process, it was explained.

The system is unique to Sussex and since it began, there have been more than 90,000 reports of anti-social driving and more than 21,000 letters sent to registered keepers of vehicles.
