Roots, by Len Sephton

“So, the buddleia reminds you of Imogene?”

“Mmm,” she answered.

“But Imogene is so lively, and the buddleia looks so sad at this time of year. A gift from herb was it?”

“Yep” she replied. “Was hers.”

“But what of Imogene now? Where is she these days?”

“Down under. Been down there a while now,” she answered.

“Ah. Her roots. Australia, isn’t it?”

“Oh no”, she said. “All that liveliness, you see. Getting on my nerves it was, that laughing, giggling and stuff. So down under the buddleia she went. So, you could say she’s gone back to her roots.”
