Collyer’s invite new ‘Dream Team’ to guide next generation

The team are now visiting schools and colleges across the region, to help year 10 and 11 pupils make informed choices about their futures and what Collyer’s can offer them in 2014. As a top performing institution, Collyer’s has Beacon status and enjoys an “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted.

Dream Team’s Martin Furlepa is thrilled to be named: “Being part of the Dream Team is a fantastic opportunity to speak to year 10 and 11 pupils and give them the full flavour of Collyer’s life from real students; a chance to discover what Collyer’s means to us and how to transfer from school to a sixth form education”.

The Dream Team are studying subjects right across the broad range of academic and vocational subjects offered at Collyer’s and each share a passion to help the next generation to understand the road into further education at the leading Sixth Form college.

Billie Wakelin said: “Working for the dream team has been a great experience so far and I am thoroughly enjoying promoting this amazing college to ‘further to reach schools’ as I used to attend one.”

Much of the early focus of the Dream Team will be building towards presenting at the Collyer’s Open Evenings on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th November.

Danni Bourne said: “I have really enjoyed my first year at Collyer’s and feel that for young people in the area thinking about where to go after school, meeting the Dream Team is a great opportunity to find out more about this outstanding college from the students’ perspective. It’s been my absolute pleasure to guide students through the eclectic choices available here”.

Throughout the year the voluntary team will also be visiting local schools’ options and post 16 evenings and even speaking at assemblies, to motivate pupils to think about their futures and how to step up to the mark at Collyer’s.

Alex Holmes was another student keen to volunteer: “The ‘Dream Team’ is my opportunity to give something back. It will also be great experience for me to develop new skills and be involved in such an important role”.

Collyer’s Assistant Principal, Melanie Russell, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Dream Team for their hard work across the region. It’s wonderful that they feel so passionately about Collyer’s that they want to spread the word!”
