Cranleigh Prep School parents and pupils plant a new copse to mark the school’s centenary

On Saturday, 12th October, as part of Cranleigh Prep School’s Centenary celebrations, children and parents planted 100 trees, to create a Centenary Copse as a lasting memory of their time at the School.

The morning began with a short chapel service led by Ruth Frett, the School Chaplain. She aptly set the tone for this special occasion, emphasising how, whilst so much of what we do today is focused on immediate results, it is wonderful to be creating a Centenary Copse for future generations to enjoy.

With a spring in their step, past and current families set off to plant their trees in glorious sunshine. In some cases, three generations of the family were involved in the planting. A plan, personalised with the names of the donors, will be put in place as a permanent reminder of the benefactors for many years to come.

Further tree planting will take place early next year: former pupils, who purchased and planted the trees in the orchard in 1947, will return to plant new trees to restore the orchard to its former glory. The planting of the Centenary Copse and the orchard are just two of many exciting centenary events that have taken place this year, providing a fitting memento of the enormous progress and development of Cranleigh Prep School as it enters its second centenary.
