Development plan "has more holes than a colander"

IN response to Tony Burton's letter (Gazette, January 14) about the North Littlehampton proposals, we are fully aware of what Greencore and Burton Property want.

The idea has more holes than a colander. Especially when these developers do not reside in this area, but in places such as the New Forest.

We already have numerous empty commercial properties in Littlehampton.

The proposed plans do infringe on the flood plain, as shown on Environment Agency maps.

People should remember we have more chance of being flooded from the Black Ditch than the sea at present.

We have access to the countryside already, as we are sitting on edge of a National Park.

We have yet to see, two years down the line, improved transport links as promised by the Elysian Fields/Toddington Lane development. There is no need for a road behind Highdown Drive, as access to and from The Academy can be easily made from the Fitzalan Road roundabout. In any case, this was only going to be a cycle path or bus-only road.

We all know how much reliance can be put on section 106 agreements, which can, as we have seen, be manipulated and down valued.

The computer model shown to us at the public meeting about Lyminster crossing had trains running one way only, another failure to present actual facts.

We already have many empty new properties in this area, with developments already under way not being sold. Retail units are required in the town, not on out of town retail parks.

We must fight to the last to stop this area being over-populated and ruined for ever by greed.
