LETTERS: Amazing response to our Bag-athon

Throughout the month of September, South East locals were busy raiding their wardrobes and donating their unwanted items to their local British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop in aid of the UK’s biggest stock donation appeal – the Great British Bag-athon. This year BHF shops set an ambitious target, aiming to raise one million bags of unwanted things in one month, for life-saving research into heart disease.

Thanks to the overwhelming support from South East locals, BHF shops have received an impressive 197,459 bags. This could be worth £3,949,180, enough to fund 65 research projects for a whole year, helping to fight against the nation’s biggest killer, heart disease.

We have had an amazing response, with over 197,459 bags donated from the people of the South East, and with each bag worth up to £20; this could be worth a possible £3,949,180.

BHF shops sell 90,000 items everyday and have over 20,000 volunteers.

The BHF now has over 700 shops. Our aim is for everyone in the UK to have a local British Heart Foundation Shop.

Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer. For over 50 years we’ve pioneered research that’s transformed the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions.

Our work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease.
