Bottled water to be delivered to Eastbourne households amid burst water main
Households in an area of Eastbourne were delivered bottled water after being left with no water or low water pressure on Thursday (August 27) following a burst water main, South East Water has confirmed.
South East Water’s AquaAlerter map showed a number of addresses between Hampden Park and Willingdon were experiencing an interruption to their water supply.
Residents in Maywood Avenue and Croxden Way reported outages or low water pressure on social media on Thursday morning.
South East Water’s Regional Network Manager, Charles Healey, said: “We’re sorry to customers in the Eastbourne area who have been impacted following a burst water main today (Thursday, 27 August).

“We have attended the location on Kirkstall Close this morning and have worked to minimise the impact of the burst, while repairs are carried out.
“A footpath closure is required to allow us to carry out repairs and while this work takes place, six properties may be experiencing low pressure or no water.
“We are arranging for bottled water to be delivered to the area for impacted customers while repairs are carried out.
“We’ll work as quickly as possible to complete repairs and we apologise to those affected for the inconvenience and disruption caused.”
The water company confirmed at 2:12am on Friday morning (August 28) that the repair had been completed and taps should be flowing as normal.
A spokesperson for South East Water said: “If your water looks brown in colour, please don't worry as it is not harmful. This happens when small particles of iron within the mains are disturbed.
“Your water may also appear cloudy, or white. If you fill a glass of water and it clears from the bottom upwards then this means your water is just a little more aerated than usual.
“Simply run the water from your cold kitchen tap until the water is clear.
“Once again, we're really sorry about the disruption.”
