Coastguard in East Sussex commemorate milestone as it approaches busiest year

The Birling Gap Coastguard team revealed the team is approaching its busiest year, with over 200 calls in one month.

According to the coastguard, the team was called 248 times this year, which is just one more calling away from ‘the busiest year’ for the team. With just two month left in the year, rescuers are on the verge of setting a record.

A Birling Gap Coastguard said: “We’ve now responded to 248 taskings so far this year—that’s an average of 24 taskings per month, or 1 callout every 1.2 days! We're already 4 up on last year’s overall total and just 1 away from our busiest year on record.

“Our callouts ranged from rope and water rescues to medical assistance, covering the coastline from Sovereign Harbour to Brighton. In between responses, the team stayed busy with ongoing training and volunteering at the Beachy Head Marathon.

“A massive thank you to our team, supporters, and local community for standing by us through a busy month.”
