Have you seen this armadillo? Animal escapes, last spotted between Polegate and Hailsham

An armadillo has escaped from his home between Polegate and Hailsham.

Lindsey Parker, joint-owner of Animal Magic, said their armadillo named Stanley was last seen on the Cuckoo Trail near the Knights Farm Shop on Thursday morning (September 3).

Animal Magic are based between Polegate and Hailsham and offer interactive, educational handling displays with their animals.

Stanley escaped by ‘breaking the door down’ of his enclosure on Tuesday night (September 1), having only been with them for three months.

Lindsey advised anyone who spots Stanley not to attempt to pick him up.

She said: “They’re extremely strong with their front feet. He’s not aggressive – he’s friendly as far as armadillos go. He’ll take food if you’ve got the right food for him, but he’s not an animal you can walk up to and pick up.”

Despite only being small, Lindsey said he’s already covered ‘a couple of miles’ from their home to the Cuckoo Trail.
