Missing ‘G’ leaves Goring Library sign with 'slightly unfortunate spelling mistake'

A councillor has called for a missing letter on a library’s sign to be reinstated ahead of the facility's 70th anniversary.

A ‘G’ has gone missing from Goring Library’s building, resulting in a sign which appears to read ‘GORIN LIBRARY’.

Councillor Martin McCabe, leader of the Labour Group at West Sussex County Council (WSCC), confirmed he has reported the ‘slightly unfortunate spelling mistake’.

He said the library, in Mulberry Lane, ‘deserves a sign that tells people where they are – preferably with all the letters included’.

Cllr McCabe said: "Goring Library is approaching a really important milestone, so I thought it would be good to make sure it actually has its name on the building!

"I've reported the missing G and I'm calling for it to be replaced in time for the 70th anniversary.

"Sometimes local politics is about the big issues, but it's also about the small things that people see every day. A missing letter may not change anyone's life, but fixing these things shows that we care about our public spaces and take pride in our towns."

Cllr McCabe said the ‘small fix’ is ‘exactly the sort of thing that can make a difference to how our communities look and feel’.

He added: “If something is broken, missing or looking untidy, we shouldn't just walk past it and assume someone else will deal with it.

"Hopefully the G will be back where it belongs in time for Goring Library's 70th birthday."
