Eastbourne RNLI said its volunteer crew was paged at 1.10pm on Tuesday, August 16, because of the person in the water close to Beachy Head Lighthouse.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “Our inshore lifeboat and volunteer crew were quickly on scene, the casualty still calling for help and in a distressed state was located and recovered onto the lifeboat.
