Pokémon fans queue outside TG Jones Eastbourne for special anniversary release

Pokémon fans in Eastbourne were queuing today (September 18) to try and get their hands on a special anniversary release of cards.

Avid collectors of Pokémon cards have been queuing since the morning to try and get their own set of the special release for the popular trading card game’s 30th anniversary.

The anniversary set was dropped worldwide on Wednesday, September 16 but the TG Jones in Eastbourne said it would have a restock delivery today (September 18). Eager fans queued to try and grab their own set in case they missed it on the initial release.

Ben and his wife Chrissy, 36, had been in the queue since 8am. Chrissy said: “It’s nostalgia for us because we grew up with it and I have been collecting on and off since 1997.”

The couple also camped outside Smyths Toys Superstore on the night before the initial release. They described there were over 200 people that queued outside the store in Sovereign Harbour.

Chrissy added: “As collectors we feel like we have to camp to buy because of scalpers. People queue up and resell the cards for hundreds of pounds, so we feel like we have no choice but to wait for the first release.”

The 30th anniversary set of cards has already gone up to £200 on the reseller website eBay.
