Police urge visitors to plan ahead for Worthing fireworks

Road closures will be in place in Worthing town centre, as crowds gather for a fireworks display and fair.

Adur and Worthing Police said Marine Parade would close between Steyne Gardens and Augusta Place from 6pm to 9pm, on Thursday (November 5).

Steyne Gardens will also close for the first time this year to provide a safe viewing area for pedestrians. Drivers will be unable to turn south into Steyne Gardens from Brighton Road during the closures.

Police warned that anyone parking within the affected roads before the closures begin will have to wait until they reopen to move their vehicle.

In a Facebook post, Sussex Police advised: “As always this is likely to be incredibly busy and well attended.

“If you choose to park your vehicle in those roads before the closure and leave it there during the closure you will not be able to move it until after 2100hrs when the road reopens.”

Visitors are being urged to consider their journeys both to and from the event, with police suggesting a walk into town or along the promenade.

“Please plan your journey both to and from the event,” the force said.

The Worthing Lions display is confirmed for 7.30pm, with spectators able to watch from the promenade and beach. The pier will be closed for safety.

Coles Fun Fair and food stalls will also be part of the event, while organisers are encouraging visitors to support town centre cafes and restaurants before and after the fireworks.

On the event website, organisers said: “Come along earlier and enjoy the fair and the local restaurants opening for pre and post firework meals.”

Worthing Lions is working in partnership with Worthing Town Centre BID to fund the display and other event costs. Admission is free, with visitors encouraged to donate online or to bucket collectors supporting local good causes.
