Southern Water to hold community drop-in events on proposed Ford Water Recycling Project
Southern Water are holding two community drop-in events for residents to learn more about the proposed Water Recycling Project in Ford.
The events will give residents an opportunity to meet members of the project team to understand the proposals for a new sustainable water source and share their initial views as plans develop.
The events will take place at: Pulborough Village Hall, Swan View, Pulborough, on Saturday, October 17 from 10am to 4pm and Yapton & Ford Village Hall, Main Road, Yapton, on Wednesday, October 21 from 2pm to 8pm
An online webinar will also be held on Wednesday, November 4 between 6pm and 7pm. Registration details will be confirmed separately.

A spokesperson for Southern Water said the Ford Water Recycling Project is being developed to ‘improve the resilience of water supplies across Sussex’ while ‘reducing pressure on rivers, groundwater and environmentally important habitats during drought’.
The proposed project would use advanced purification processes to turn treated wastewater from Ford Wastewater Treatment Works into purified recycled water. The project could provide up to 15 million litres of additional water each day during drought conditions.
Ben Ring, Managing Director, Capital Projects at Southern Water, said: “As our region faces increasing pressure from the need to protect the environment, population growth and climate change, investing in new water infrastructure is essential.
“The Ford Water Recycling Project forms part of Southern Water’s long-term strategy to develop sustainable new water resources using technology that has been safely and successfully used around the world for many years.
“These events are an opportunity for us to explain why the project is needed, answer questions and hear directly from local communities while our proposals are still being developed.”
Southern Water are currently carrying out environmental surveys and engaging with communities, landowners, environmental bodies and other stakeholders.
The information gathered will help shape the developing design and inform future planning and environmental consent applications.
Residents can share questions, comments and local knowledge by emailing [email protected]. Feedback received during this early engagement will help Southern Water understand local priorities as the project develops.
