St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley has announced the relaunch of its expert in-person wellbeing classes, after stopping due to the pandemic in 2020.

The hospice is celebrating ‘Hospice Care Week’ (October 10 to 14) and is an opportunity to celebrate hospice care nationwide and the work that is being done to make sure everyone can benefit from brilliant end-of-life care.

It is therefore the perfect opportunity for the Crawley-based hospice to promote its weekly seated exercise and guided relaxation classes, to help people under the hospice’s care to live as well as they can for as long as they can.

Supported by St Catherine’s therapy team, the weekly exercise class runs through gentle seated movements to help people to remain mobile. The guided relaxation at the hospice is led by a volunteer and helps people to focus their minds and senses on a place where they can feel safe, peaceful and calm. The classes also give them a chance to socialise with others in a similar situation.

Attendees who took part in the first series of classes gave their feedback. Meena cares for her husband Dilip and they have both attended St Catherine’s exercise classes.

Meena said:“I joined in with the class alongside Dilip who always felt much better after the exercise.

“The hospitality St Catherine’s offers is the best! We were always welcomed so nicely, and it made us feel part of the system. Everyone has been so helpful, and the tea and cake was the cherry on the top!”

John who attends St Catherine’s classes said: “the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Doing the exercises was just what I needed, and the support I’ve received has been tremendous after I lost my wife of 60 years.

“I can’t praise the staff enough. They’re wonderful and the care they’ve supplied is incredible. It’s done so much good for me.”
