Sussex school goes fully phone free
A new policy introduced by Robertsbridge Community College means students won’t have access to their phones during lesson time.
The college already had a no use of phones policy but has now introduced pouches where students check their phone in at the start of the day.
The new system came into force on Monday July 6 and the college says it went well with full co-operation from the students.
A spokesperson for Robertsbridge Community College said: “The first day of our phone-free school initiative marked a significant moment at Robertsbridge Community College. “Students were issued with their pouches on Friday, and on Monday morning they walked through the doors ready to give it a go.

“As a phone-free school, this wasn't a new rule for our students - but the pouches take away the temptation entirely. No willpower required and no pressure - just a school day the way it should be. A day filled with face-to-face conversations, focused lessons, and young people genuinely connecting with each other. “You may have seen that the government has now changed the rules on mobile phones in schools - but rather than wait for that to become a legal requirement next year, we wanted to get ahead of the curve and get this embedded properly from the start. “We couldn't be prouder of how our students embraced the change - their maturity and willingness to try something new is a real reflection of the values that sit at the heart of our school community. “A huge thank you to all the staff who were out front on Monday morning making the transition smooth and to the parents for making sure our students turned up, pouches at the ready. It truly was a team effort.”
