Councillor Burton said: “I’m sure this change won’t be easy, change never is, and I will miss this town and the community I’ve built around me more than I could ever express.

"I’m an emotional wreck as I write this, but I know it’s the right thing for me and my family.

"I’ll remain CEO of Volunteers Network and keep the grants coming in whilst my fabulous team will manage the day to day activities.

“Regarding my council role, my move means I have a lot to organise.

"I’m really sad to be leaving earlier than planned but I need to put my health and family first.

"The local Liberal Democrat team has been an extended family over the past four years, but I leave the council in their very capable hands and will continue to support them as best I can.

“I’ll still be around for months, so it’s not goodbye just yet, but I do want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me and my work over the last few years.

"I’ve always done what I can to make the world a better place, aided and abetted by some wonderful people, and will seek to do that wherever I live.”

Council leader David Tutt thanked Councillor Burton for her work in the community.

He said: “She has always thrown herself fully into every role that she has performed, be it deputy mayor, setting up the Langney Larder – which has helped many people as the cost of living has risen dramatically – or more recently as the cabinet member for our heritage buildings.

"Whilst I am sad to see her go, I fully understand her reasons for doing so and offer her and her family my best wishes for their new life in Somerset."
