Plans for new homes in Angmering are submitted

Plans to build eight new homes at Avenals Farm in Angmering have been submitted to Arun District Council.

The application relates to land south of Water Lane and proposes converting and extending existing buildings into eight new properties.

The Grade II listed Avenals Farmhouse is a key consideration in the plans and, according to the application, the proposals have been carefully designed to take its setting into account.

The plans cover four areas within the grounds of Avenals Farmhouse.

The first is a disused tennis court to the west of the site, where a new bungalow is proposed. A statement submitted with the application says mature trees would help screen the property from the listed farmhouse.

The second area includes an existing garage and barn building, which could be converted into a single-storey home. Part of an existing orchard is also proposed to be used as a garden for the property.

The third area is an office building, which had previously received permission to be converted into three homes. Under the new proposal, it would instead become two properties.

The final area is an open field where four homes are proposed, comprising of two sets of semi-detached houses.

The statement considers the site’s trees, wildlife and flood risk and says most of the existing trees could be kept, with new trees planted as part of the landscaping.

It also said: ‘the site presents a clear opportunity to repurpose existing buildings, continuing the farmstead’s history of evolution.’

Arun District Council is due to make a decision by December 14.
