Road closure planned in Arundel for crossing improvement works
A road in Arundel will be closed for two days next week, as part of works to improve crossings around a primary school.
Jarvis Road will be closed from 6am to 6pm on Thursday, August 6, and Friday, August 7, according to West Sussex County Council.
The closure is part of a wider active travel scheme to improve crossing facilities, around Arundel Church of England Primary School.
A West Sussex Highways social media post read: “We are undertaking crossing improvement works on the roads around Arundel C of E School, to provide safer and more accessible travel for those walking, wheeling or cycling.

“Please follow the diversion that will be sign posted locally.”
Works have been taking place on Jarvis Road, Pearson Road and Herington Road since July 23 and are due to continue until August 7.
The final stage of the work will involve the construction of a raised carriageway table on Jarvis Road, between the Herington Road and Pearson Road junctions.
West Sussex Highways said a full road closure would be required to allow the final part of the work to take place.
Drivers have been advised to follow the locally signed diversion route, with delays expected.
The works are being carried out by West Sussex County Council, as part of its active travel to school scheme.
The county council’s website explains: “Active travel is using physically active means for your everyday journeys, such as walking or scooting to school, using a wheelchair or mobility scooter for shopping trips, or cycling to work. Advantages to active travel include increased fitness, cheaper journeys and environmental benefits.
“In 2022 the government established Active Travel England to help achieve its vision for walking and cycling as set out in the third Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS3). This includes the aspiration that by 2035, 55% of all short stages in towns and cities will be walked or cycled.
“The government provides local highway authorities with revenue funding to improve their capability and skills, support the development of active travel networks and schemes, and deliver behaviour change programmes.
“Capital funding is also provided to support the design and construction of active travel improvement schemes. In 2025 the government set out active travel capability fund allocations for the periods 2026 to 2027 and 2029 to 2030.”
