Work begins to remove dead street trees in Eastbourne

East Sussex County Council has begun work to remove dead trees from Eastbourne’s streets.

Eastbourne Conservatives say the first batch of about 50 trees are now being removed ahead of the winter weather.

Councillors called for “urgent action” in August of this year following two incidents involving dead or dying street trees.

A spokesperson for Eastbourne Conservatives said: “Residents know how long some of these trees have been left standing and the risks they pose, with several already coming down and causing damage to cars and nearby property.

“It is good to see work finally happening, but we will keep pushing until the remaining dead and dangerous trees next to homes, parked cars and busy footpaths are dealt with.

“If you are worried about a street tree near you, please report it to East Sussex County Council and let your local Conservative councillor know so we can chase it up.”
