Works proposed to make Worthing Pavilion more energy efficient

Works to Worthing’s Pavilion Theatre could make the 100-year-old landmark more energy efficient.

Upgrades and improvements to the building’s windows will help it ‘keep up with the times while protecting its historic character’, according to Worthing Borough Council (WBC).

“These improvements will help the building retain more heat in winter and stay cooler in summer, while reducing drafts and outside noise for visitors,” WBC said.

“The new double-glazed windows we’re planning to install have been carefully selected to respect the building’s heritage, with detailing that matches the existing single-glazed windows. Where secondary glazing is being installed rather than replacing existing windows, the appearance of the building will remain unchanged.”

WBC said proposals to replace the windows have been ‘carefully designed to balance the need for improved thermal efficiency with the preservation of the building’s historic features’.

A planning statement reads: “By enhancing thermal performance, the theatre will continue to serve as a welcoming venue whilst reducing the theatres energy consumption and carbon footprint, aligning with the Council’s and Theatre’s environmental commitments.”

The authority added: “If approved by Worthing’s planning committee, these improvements would form part of our ongoing work to enhance and protect the town’s seafront and its landmarks. We would jointly fund the work with the government.

“We’d like to thank Worthing Theatres and Museum for their close cooperation as we look to continue making our entertainment venues more environmentally friendly.”
