LIGHTS OF LOVE: Our annual service of remembrance, in support of St Peter and St James Hospice, will be held at the church at 4pm tomorrow, Saturday. As usual, the lights on the Christmas tree in the churchyard will be switched on immediately prior to the service.

ST MARY’S: Thank you to everyone who supported the Rainbow Fair. It was a lovely village event and we made about £1900 which isn’t bad. We celebrate Christingle this Sunday at the 10am service. Have you wondered how an orange, red tape, sweets and raisins and a candle are each symbols of hope? Come along to this special service and also contribute to the work of The Children’s Society. If you would like to help make Christingles we shall be meeting at 10am on Saturday morning for about an hour. Sunday Services, 8am Mattins and 6.30pm Eucharist Service, celebrating the faith with bread and wine. Travelling Cribs. St Mary’s has two knitted nativity sets which are available to borrow for a few nights. COUNTRY MARKET: Did you know that the producers who cook for the Country Market are willing to help with your Christmas catering? If you would like to order specific items to be made, we would be happy to discuss your requirements and do our best to provide them. Please call in at the village hall on Tuesday from 10am to 11am. We still have a selection of winter vegetables on offer and one or two different craft stalls each week. If anyone would like to cook for the market, we would love to hear from you.

WI: Our Annual Meeting in November was enlivened by some sparkling wine to encourage us as we followed the agenda. Susan James turned this year’s annual report into verse (though some of the rhymes were a little far-fetched) which kept us both informed and amused. We elected a new committee and said thank you to retiring committee member Kele Kingsley. Teresa Keen continues as president, Carol McDougall as secretary and Sylvia Burton as treasurer. As usual a WI group enjoyed the Ringmer Dramatic Society play on the opening night, and some members went to Lewes Little Theatre as well. The walking group explored Wakehurst Place and some of our members joined those from the three other WI’s in our Group in Chiddingly for a joint Christmas party, when each WI offered an item of entertainment. Our Christmas lunch will be at Barnsgate Manor and we continue in party mood at our next meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the village hall, with punch, mince pies and musical entertainment. Visitors and new members welcome.

FLOWER CLUB: At the meeting on Wednesday at 2pm in the village hall, there will be a flower arranging demonstration by Graham King entitled A Touch of Magic. Visitors are welcome for an admission fee of £5, to include refreshments. As a result of all the support for our coffee morning, morning market and stewarding at triathlon events this year, and from our club members, we have been able to make donations to St. Peter and St. James Hospice via their Ringmer Support Group (£550), the Sussex Kidney Trust (£100) and the Ringmer Village Hall building appeal (£100).

BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday November 23, the result of the duplicate pairs played was: 1, Frank Hibbert and Roy Skan; 2, Lesley Durrant and David Warner; 3, Deirdre Booth and Tony Wing. The club next meets in the St. Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Contact 814220.

SPEED WATCH: The Community Speed Watch group of volunteers is looking for new members. Approved and regulated by Sussex Police and supported by the Parish and District Council, volunteers monitor vehicle speeds at various locations in the village.
