Sussex Police arebacking campaignagainst slavery

It aims to raise awareness amongst the public, public institutions and the private sector about the scale and scope of human trafficking.

Detective Chief Inspector Carwyn Hughes said: “Organised Immigration Crime, human trafficking and labour exploitation are significant and growing problems in many other countries and the UK, and although there is currently no evidence to suggest that it is prevalent in Sussex, we cannot consider ourselves immune.

“Sussex Police, working with other agencies in the public and private sector, seek information about any signs of exploitation of the street community and migrant Eastern Europeans, and women, for forced work in closed environments, in Sussex or elsewhere in the UK.

“We are carrying our several operations.”

The force has developed a strategy to seek intelligence and deal with issues raised, under the overall national strategy known as Operation Eagle.
