Chichester gas works finish a week ahead of schedule
Gas replacement works in Chichester have been completed a week ahead of schedule.
West Sussex Highways announced that Market Avenue was due to reopen on Thursday (July 9), after SGN completed urgent reinforcement work to the gas network earlier than expected.
The road had originally been expected to remain affected until July 17. Emergency traffic restrictions came into force on June 29, to allow the work to be carried out safely.
The project involved urgent reinforcement of SGN's gas network infrastructure, with traffic management in place around Market Avenue throughout the works.

In a social media update on the planned utility works, West Sussex Highways said: “We are pleased to announce that the planned gas replacement works on Market Avenue have been completed one week ahead of schedule.
"We will continue to keep you updated on the next phase of works as further information becomes available.”
The early completion means one less source of disruption for motorists travelling through Chichester, during the busy Goodwood Festival of Speed period.
Heavy traffic has built up on roads around the city, as thousands of visitors make their way to the opening day of the four-day motoring spectacular.
The longest delays are on New Road, where traffic is slow in both directions – between the A285 Stane Street and Claypit Lane – near Goodwood Motor Circuit. The congestion is expected to continue throughout the event, which runs until Sunday.
