Eastbourne road closes for resurfacing
An Eastbourne road has closed for resurfacing.
Devonshire Place closed amid works to ‘strengthen and resurface’ the carriageway between Grand Parade and the Memorial Roundabout.
High friction surfacing (HFS), ironwork adjustments and road marking refreshments will also be carried out to ‘improve overall safety to road users’.
The 24-hour closure is in place from Sunday, May 31 to Friday, June 5.

It comes after bus operator Stagecoach said its services were diverting away from the road due to ‘poor road conditions which have caused damage to our vehicles’.
A Stagecoach spokesperson previously said: "We don’t take the decision to divert lightly, but we need to protect our buses, our customers and our employees.”
The works are being undertaken in the following phases:
Phase 1: Sunday, May 31, 7pm – work will start on the northbound carriageway only, until 5pm on Tuesday, June 2.

Phase 2: Tuesday, June 2, 6pm – works will resume on the southbound carriageway only, until 5pm on Friday, June 5.
An East Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “Eastbourne welcomes thousands of visitors each summer, and we know how important it is to keep the town moving during this busy period. That’s why the works have been carefully planned and scheduled to be completed ahead of the main tourist season.
"Once completed, public transport services can return to the area.
“To carry out the resurfacing safely, Devonshire Place will need to be closed to through traffic in phases, with clearly signed diversion routes in place.
“We appreciate that this may cause some disruption and thank you for your patience while we complete these improvements.”
