Level crossing 'issue' blamed for bus diversions in Eastbourne

Traffic delays were reported in Eastbourne after a level crossing fault.

Stagecoach buses were impacted by the incident on Friday night (March 14).

Stagecoach South East reported at 9pm: “Apologies. Due to an issue with the level crossing at Hampden Park, our Link services are diverting via Decoy Drive, Kings Drive and Cross Levels Way between Brassey Avenue and Lottbridge Drive.”

The road was reported as ‘closed both ways’, due to the ‘faulty barriers’, according to Sussex Traffic Watch.

The incident had reportedly been resolved by 10.15pm.

Earlier on Friday evening, Stagecoach reported that The Hydenye was ‘currently closed for emergency’ roadworks by East Sussex Highways.

Buses were unable to stop at Winkney Farm or The Hydneye, as a result, and served ‘alternative stops at B&Q or Hampden Avenue’.
