Problem-hit major road in West Sussex to close again in August
A major West Sussex road which has been plagued with problems for more than three-and-a-half years will close again later this month.
The A29 at Church Hill in Pulborough first faced problems in December 2022 when West Sussex County Council closed the road following a landslip.
It remained shut for months before reopening to single-lane traffic, controlled by traffic lights in April 2023, and with concrete blocks installed on both sides of the road.
Previous delays to resolving the situation were caused by legal wrangles between the county council and the owners of land by the embankment.

The road was closed earlier this April, between the junctions of Lower Street and Church Place, to allow for ‘essential safety work’.
And the A29 Church Hill will close again on Monday, August 10 to allow West Sussex County Council to carry out lighting maintenance works.
The closure will be in place from 9.30am to 2pm.
A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “The A29 Church Hill Road in Pulborough will be closed on Monday 10 August from 9.30am to 2pm. The closure will be in place between the A283 junction and Church Place.
“We need to close the road so we can undertake a programmed annual inspection of the traffic lights at this location. Our team will be inspecting the lights, poles, wiring and electrical connections to make sure everything is working and operating safely.
“Emergency vehicles will still be able to use the road. All other traffic will need to follow the signed diversion route while the road is closed. You can find full details on One Network.”
