Roadworks causing delays in Crawley as bridge repairs and resurfacing schemes get underway
Drivers are being warned to expect delays across Crawley, as several road improvement and utility projects take place over the coming weeks.
A major scheme has been planned for Overdene Drive, where West Sussex County Council is set to begin bridge repair works.
West Sussex Highways advised: “Please be advised we will be undertaking repair works at Overdene Drive bridge from 20 July to 21 August. There will be a lane will with two-way lights will be in operation from 20 July to 7 August. Then a full road closure from 10 to 21 August."
Contractors will carry out bridge re-waterproofing and replace expansion joints. The official start date for the works was listed as July 15.

A footway closure will also be in place, with an alternative route provided for pedestrians.
Meanwhile, temporary multi-way traffic signals remain on Gossops Drive, where Scotia Gas Networks (SGN) is carrying out utility repair and maintenance works.
The gas works began on June 29 and are expected to finish on July 24. A footway closure is also in place, and motorists are being warned to expect delays while the temporary traffic signals remain in operation.
A photograph from the scene shows traffic cones, temporary traffic signals and work vehicles controlling traffic through the works.
Elsewhere, West Sussex County Council has scheduled a number of road resurfacing schemes across Crawley, all involving road closures while the existing road surface is removed and replaced.
The planned works include:
Chatfields – road closed until July 21;
Kingscote Hill – road closed until July 22;
Fountains Close – road closed until July 17;
Wenlock Close – road closed until July 17;
Tintern Road – road closed until July 20.
The resurfacing projects form part of the council's highway maintenance programme and are expected to cause disruption while they are carried out.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys, follow signed diversion routes where necessary and check traffic conditions before travelling.
