Roadworks on A259 in West Sussex village postponed due to flooding
Planned overnight resurfacing works in the Chichester district have been postponed.
The roadworks were planned for the A259, near Colworth Lane, in Oving. They were due to start on Monday night (February 2).
But they have been postponed after flooding caused the closure of a key diversion route.
A West Sussex Highways social media post read: “Resurfacing works due to start tonight have been cancelled due to unavailability of the diversion route via the A29, which is closed due to flooding.

"Work will be rescheduled and warning signs will be removed as soon as possible.”
The A29 remains closed near Bognor Regis, as of 11am on Tuesday.
According to AA Traffic News, Shripney Road is shut between the A259 and Sack Lane after floodwater made the route impassable.
The AA added that ‘some drivers are ignoring signs’ but the road remains closed.
A subsequent West Sussex Highways statement read: “Please do not drive through road closures caused by flooding.
“Surface water is currently being pushed into nearby homes and properties, making the situation worse for residents. Even shallow water can cause damage and driving through it creates waves that floods gardens, driveways and houses.
“Follow the diversions and avoid flooded areas.”
A West Sussex County Council spokesperson told Sussex World: “The A29 Shripney Road was closed due to high levels of floodwater making the road unsafe. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely, with inspections taking place daily.
"With further rain forecast this week, the closure will remain in place while significant standing water is still present on the road.”
A resident’s post on social media site, Nextdoor, quipped that Shripney and surrounding areas ‘are being twinned with Venice’ – such is the extent of the flooding.
Meanwhile, Due to Keynor Rife flooding and high groundwater levels, Highleigh Road and Keynor Lane ‘remain closed for safety’.
West Sussex Highways added: “We will be assessing the situation daily and will update you when we have further information.”
