Stagecoach to make changes to bus services across Eastbourne

The bus operator confirmed from Sunday, April 12, there will be some changes to bus routes and timetables across Eastbourne and Hastings.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach added: “These changes follow a reduction in bus support funding available to East Sussex County Council (ESCC) from central funding.

"As a result, some services - particularly evening and Sunday journeys - will no longer operate. There are some other minor timetable changes for reliability improvements.”

In Eastbourne the changes to routes are as follows:

1/1A: No change to route. Minor timetable improvements, including earlier morning journeys.

1B: Will serve Roebuck Park on Monday to Saturday evenings, replacing Route 52. Minor timetable changes during the day to improve reliability.

3/3A: No change to route. Evening journeys have been withdrawn with the last bus from Eastbourne Station to Meads at 6.55pm due to ‘low usage and funding changes’.

4: No change to route. Minor timetable changes to afternoon journeys .

5/5A/5B: Route 5: hourly bus frequency between North Harbour and Eastbourne.

Route 5A will be replaced by route 52 with new links to District General Hospital, Polegate, Hailsham.

Route 5B: evening journeys after 7pm are to be withdrawn with the new route 99E serving South Harbour and ASDA. Additional evening journeys between Town Centre and Seaside Tesco. School travel adjustments for Cavendish School.

6/6A: No change to route. Some journeys will take place earlier. Journeys after 7pm are withdrawn; route 51 to run via Dittons Wood in the evening to maintain service.

7: Reduced journeys to Winkney Farm due to ‘very low usage’. Minor timetable changes.

8: No change to route. Minor timetable adjustments to ‘improve reliability of afternoon journeys’.

51: Minor timetable changes. Evening journeys after 7pm run via Dittons Wood, replacing withdrawn journeys on route 6 and 52.

52: Evening journeys after 7pm Mon to Saturday are to be withdrawn. Daytime journeys are to be mostly extended to South Harbour providing direct links to Hailsham, Polegate, District General Hospital. Use route 51 for Dittons Wood; 1B for Roebuck Park.

53: No change to route. Additional morning journey to Bexhill Mon-Fri. Evening journeys withdrawn due to low usage / funding. Sunday service continues.

57/58/59: No change to route. Additional running time to ‘improve reliability’.

99/99E: Improved timetable. Frequency increased to every 20 minutes, additional early morning/evening journeys. 99E to serve South Harbour.

LINK: No change to route. Most daytime short journeys Monday to Saturday removed due to ‘funding withdrawal’. Sunday services continue.
