The occupant of the house in Madeira Avenue said he feels ‘lucky to be alive’ after the impact which ‘shook’ his property just before 7pm.

Dan Wightman, 24, was travelling on Albion Way when he was involved in a collision with another car at the roundabout outside Horsham Superbowl.

His vehicle catapulted into the home of Bernardino Marco, 55, and his wife Sue, 49, who were sitting in their living room just yards away from the point of impact at the time.

“I hit the curb and the car flipped sideways and then I was looking through the windscreen sideways - that was the scariest point,” Mr Wightman told the County Times just minutes after the crash.

“I had time to think how it was going to end, and I was surprised that I could just step out of the car.”

A brick smashed into the windscreen on the passenger’s side and the car’s airbags deployed.

He added: “It was frightening. I feel lucky to be here talking to you. Cars are material, lives aren’t.”

Mr Marco said he and his wife heard an ‘almighty bang’ when the car collided with the side of their home.

“Today is my lucky day,” he said.

“I always lean against that wall and have a coffee. I feel lucky to be alive.”

Sue added: “I jumped up because the whole house shook.

“The first thing I thought was I hope the driver’s not hurt. I didn’t think the person would be okay.”

No one was injured in the crash.

Police attended the scene, helped clear debris and organised a recovery vehicle to take away Mr Wightman’s car.
