Trash is rubbished

LITTER along Bognor Regis beach has been condemned by a resident.

Gary West, his wife and two young children went along to enjoy the early April weather on the seafront. But they were confronted by beer bottles, cans and scattered litter.

He said: “Sadly, it was ruined by the dangerous waste that was scattered all along the beach from where the fisherman land their boats for the next 50m or so heading east.

“Why can’t Arun District Council have the foresight to insure that our lovely beaches are kept clean and safe?

“I, for one, am not prepared to put my children at risk with broken beer bottles all over the beach. Please would someone take ownership and responsibility of one of the few lovely things we have left.”

An Arun spokeswoman said: “We thank Mr West for his prompt reporting of this rubbish and assure him we take the cleanliness of our all our beaches very seriously.

“The Bognor beaches receive several checks and cleans during the day and we promptly respond to any serious issues raised.

“We always encourage people to dispose of their litter in one of the many bins we provide to keep our beaches, streets and parks pleasant for everyone or take it home with them.

“When people fail to do this, we always act to clear items as soon as a problem is reported.”
