The event, held at Worthing Pavilion, and hosted by newsreader and presenter Fred Dinenage, saw 18 winning businesses and a host of highly-commended firms recognised.

Mr Dinenage said: “I love these events because the businesses are just coming through a recession, and coming out the other side.

“I think Ghodsi Young, from the barbers, was my favourite. She was lovely.”

Adur cabinet member for regeneration Pat Beresford said judging the awards was a tough job, but he ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ the experience.

He said: “I thought it was smashing and I was very impressed with the quantity and quality of the entrants.

“The award myself and Bryan Turner presented was my favourite. The Love Food guys almost need an award for bravery for starting that sort of company in the current economic climate.

“I can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
