Services at St John’s Church on Sunday, November 10 are Holy Communion (BCP) at 8am and the Service of Remembrance at 10.30am, followed by laying of wreaths at the War Memorial. Next week-end, the Social Team is organising an Italian Meal in the Parish Hall on Saturday, November 16 at 7pm. Tickets are £10 (children £5) from church or from Archers Butchers.

The Friends of Westfield Parish Church hold their AGM in the church tomorrow, Saturday, November 9 at 2pm. Following the AGM business, Amanda Helm will be talking about ‘Ornithology in Publishing’. Payment of annual subscriptions will be appreciated at this meeting. The Christmas Fayre will be from 2-4pm on Saturday, November 30 in the Parish Hall. There will be the usual stalls, including cakes, cards, books, wooden items, raffle and tombola. Westfield Hub is holding a Quiz Evening for tables of up to six people in the Parish Hall tomorrow, Saturday, November 9 at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets are £5 in advance, to include cold buffet (£6 on the night) from Thelma on 01424 756204, or call in to the Hub at ‘The Plough’ this morning from 10am-12 noon. Future dates to note are the evening at Brighton dogs on Thursday, November 21, the Hub AGM at ‘The Plough’ at 11am on Friday, November 22, and the Hub Christmas lunch (early booking essential!) at ‘The Plough’ on Wednesday, December 11.

The Friendship Club meets in the Parish Hall fortnightly on Mondays from 2-3.30pm. There will be a Beetle Drive on November 11, and the Christmas party is on December 9. They would be pleased to see new members, who will be given a very warm welcome.

Westfield WI meets at 2.15pm on the second Tuesday of the month in the Parish Hall, and new members are always welcome. This month’s meeting on November 12 is the Annual Meeting, and the competition is a bookmark. Westfield WI is hosting a charity Fashion Show at the Parish Hall at 2pm on Tuesday, November 19, when ‘Bon Marché’ will be bringing some lovely outfits for our members to model. The event is in aid of the Sara Lee Trust, and visitors are very welcome.

Organisations covering the wider area include the National Trust, Rye and District Lions and Rye WEA. The National Trust has a talk ‘To Marry an English Lord’ on Thursday, November 21 at 2pm at Brede Village Hall, and a trip to Bluewater on Monday, November 25. Please put these dates in your diaries as Christmas preparations start. There will be a Carols Sing-a-long with Richard and Graham at ‘The Plough’ on Wednesday, December 11 at 7pm, with a raffle for local charity. The WCA Carols around the tree will be on Friday 13 December at 7pm, and musicians, particularly wind instrument players, are needed to play for this; please ring Janice on 01424 753684 if you can help.
