Over the past 24 years, Val Harber, the estate manager at Hanover Housing Associations, Hanover Walk estate, in Storrington, has spoken at national older peoples forums, created a large bird aviary at Hanover Walk and hosted a vast array of animal friendly events.

These have included guide dog visits, spring lambs visiting from a local farm and a visit from a parliament of owls.

Val, 57, said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive this wonderful accolade.

“I am very grateful to have been giving the chance to work with Hanover and the Cinnamon trust to promote the great joy that pet ownership brings to our residents’ lives.”

The cinnamon Trust was set up in 1985 by Averil Jarvis to respect and preserve the relationship between owners and their pets.

Mrs Jarvis said: “In 1989 when Val started on her mission, Cinnamon Trust was just six-years-old, there was only me. We have grown together and this award is well deserved and Val has my whole hearted admiration.”
