Young performers sought for new writing challenge

Ariel Company Theatre

Ariel Company Theatre has been selected for the National Theatre’s Connections 2027 festival, celebrating new writing for young performers – and is now looking for performers.

Spokeswoman Nicci Hopson said: “We’re seeking around 20 performers aged 13-19 (Year 9+) for That’s Me, APD by acclaimed playwright Amanda Whittington.

“The production follows Morgan, a teenager navigating an overwhelming world and discovering more about auditory processing disorder, identity, friendship and finding her voice.

“The ensemble will use acting, movement, physical theatre, vocals and live music to bring the story to life. You don’t need to sing or play an instrument to audition.

“The ensemble will become the sonic engine of the production, using acting, live music, vocals, spoken word, movement and physical theatre to create an immersive theatrical world.

“Performers will work with a National Theatre mentor director, develop their skills and take part in a full production at Burgess Hill Theatre Club and Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells. The production may also be selected to perform at the National Theatre in London in June 2027.”

The audition is on Thursday, November 5, 7-9pm Registration: 6.50pm Burnside Community Centre, Victoria Road, Burgess Hill RH15 9LH.

“The audition is a workshop; nothing needs to be prepared. Singers and musicians may optionally submit a short self-tape, but all applicants must attend in person.”

Auditions are open to Ariel and non-Ariel performers aged 13-19.

“We are looking for young people who are enthusiastic, collaborative, imaginative and excited by ensemble theatre.

“Rehearsals begin on Thursday, November 12, 7-9pm at Burnside Community Centre. They will be mainly on Thursday evenings, with a small number of Sunday sessions. Attendance at rehearsals and all theatre performances is essential.”

Performances will be Burgess Hill Theatre Club on Friday February 19 and Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells on Saturday, April 24, Sunday, April 25 or Sunday, May 2 2027 (date to be confirmed). Also National Theatre, London in June 2027 if selected to progress through the Connections festival.
