Sussex Cricket League: Roffey win Premier Division, Cuckfield relegated as Hastings and Bognor win

Roffey claimed the Sussex Cricket League Premier Division title after beating Cuckfield on the final day.

And after wins for Bognor against Haywards Heath and Hastings at Preston Nomads, Cuckfield were relegated.

Roffey recovered from 21-3 to post 220-7 from their 50 overs, mainly thanks to star batsman Matt Davies’ 75 not out.

Frankie Cripps then took 3-44 as Cuckfield fell 21 runs short in their chase. Middleton finished second following a comfortable win against West Chiltington.

Bognor chased 257 for the loss of just one wicket to ensure safety with a nine-wicket win. Theo Beynon-Ayres hit his first ever century with an unbeaten 110 and Oliver Mason hit 76 not out to secure the win.

Hastings had a nervy two-run victory against Nomads. Joe Billings carried his bat for 102 before Adam Pye took 3-40.

Ifield had already secured the Division 2 title but the final day saw Pagham and East Grinstead relegated. Preston Nomads 2nd XI – who lost at Worthing despite Aaron Philips’ hat-trick – will need a play-off to avoid the drop.
