Baldwin demands ‘toothless’ Wick buck ideas up after defeats

Wick have been ordered to find the passion needed to be a competitive side after two heavy defeats over the bank holiday weekend.

Manager Lee Baldwin was far from happy with the application in his team’s ranks following a 5-1 Southern Combination Premier defeat against Seaford at Newhaven before a 3-0 bank holiday Monday reversal against Pagham at Nyetimber Lane.

The Dragons will face a long winter if they do not buck up their ideas with Baldwin lamenting the lack of drive in his squad even though he insists they are a talented group.

They have the chance to make amends when they entertain AFC Varndeanians at Bognor's Nyewood Lane on Saturday (3pm) before Seaford make the reverse trip along the coast on Tuesday (7.30pm).

"Both games were not good enough, if you don’t defend well and you don’t look like scoring you are going to lose games of football," Baldwin said.

“We have looked toothless in both boxes in both games and have got out just rewards.

"There will big changes on the football side of things as that was the worst performance we have put in against Pagham for many a year and it won’t happen again.

"We have arguably got the most talented group of players we have ever had at the club but they slightly lack desire, the passion and the will to win my previous teams have had over the years. We need to install that pretty quickly then we will be fine. At the minute, though, it is just not good enough.”
