Brighton agree deadline day deal for defender

All the latest transfer news for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League

Brighton’s teenage defensive prospect Freddie Simmonds will spend the 2026/27 season on loan with AFC Wimbledon.

The move comes after the 18-year-old signed a new contract with the club, which runs until June 2030.

Sporting director Mike Cave said, “Freddie has progressed well through the academy and has also had the opportunity to regularly train with the first team.

“Now it is time for him to go and play regular senior football and this loan represents an excellent opportunity for him to do that.

“He has worked hard to get to this position, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on the new contract and wish him well for the season ahead.”

The club's loans department, headed by Gordon Greer, will monitor Freddie's progress through the season.

The defender has been a regular for the under-21s in the last two seasons, making 30 Premier League 2 appearances, and has also been included in two Premier League matchday squads.

Ansah to Hull

Elsewhere, Premier League newcomers Hull have signed German striker Ilyas Ansah from Bundesliga side Union Berlin for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has agreed a five-year contract and becomes the club’s 13th signing since securing promotion to the top flight.

The Germany Under-21 international told the Tigers’ website: “I’m very excited. It’s a dream come true for me to play in the Premier League, and for such a big club – it’s really an honour for me.”
