Glenn Murray reveals Brighton transfer truth after £70m Manchester United decision

All the latest transfer talk for Brighton and Hove Albion on transfer deadline day

Former Brighton striker Glenn Murray believes another midfielder could help Brighton on transfer deadline day.

The Seagulls, who suffered a 4-3 loss at Chelsea last weekend, look a little light in the centre of the park after selling Carlos Baleba to Manchester United for £70m.

Sweden international Yasin Ayari also missed the match due to injury, with French defender Olivier Boscagli utilised as a makeshift holding midfielder.

Pascal Gross, 35, is the main midfield option alongside Ayari and Mats Wieffer - currently deployed at right back - can also play the midfield role.

Murray: A No 6 is a possibility

Murray said: “I suppose if you want injuries, it’s now so he can go to his board and say, ‘I need more players’.

“They are unforeseen things that happen in football. But I think when he gets a good look at it, when everyone is fit, he will be pretty happy.

“Maybe another No 6 with Baleba going out late is a possibility. They have obviously brought Promise David in as that extra striker, that different type.

“But they have spent quite a lot of money this summer.”

Yalcouye impressed

The Chelsea defeat did though provide a chance for midfielder Malick Yalcouye to shine on his Premier League debut.

Yalcouye, 20, played in a more advanced midfield role and capped a fine display with Albion's first goal.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “I think he showed an impressive performance. We know since pre-season what he was capable of doing.

“Of course, he's a very young player. He needs to prove his physicality, but he also, like I said, showed personality, stepping into a difficult place, stepping into a top environment.

“It's proof of what he can do. Of course, there would be more happiness sitting here with more points, because I think we definitely deserved it today, and that's why we're frustrated.

“But it's also important to reinforce this kind of performance.”
