Liverpool issue Storm Boelo and Anfield statement ahead of Brighton fixture

Liverpool vs Brighton from Anfield in the Premier League - Sunday, 2pm

Amber weather warnings have come into force as the worst of Storm Boelo hits parts of the UK, ahead of Brighton’s clash against Liverpool in the Premier League.

Nearby Aintree cancelled it’s first meet of the season due to the strong winds from Boelo on Sunday after an 8am inspection.

Visit Liverpool also announced the region’s River of Light event, featuring illuminated artworks, had been cancelled “in the interests of safety”.

Liverpool vs Brighton is on

Liverpool’s Premier League match against third place Brighton is however still due to go ahead.

A statement from Liverpool Football Club read: “A statement read: "The men’s team host Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League and the women’s team are facing London City Lionesses in the Barclays Women’s Super League, with each kicking off at 2pm GMT.

"Due to the very windy weather, please take care if you are travelling to either game, plan your journey in advance and give yourself extra time.

"Club stewards will be on hand at both stadiums to assist supporters – please follow their guidance when you arrive.

"We wish you safe travels and we look forward to welcoming you to Anfield and St Helens Stadium."

Storm Boelo follows Storm Austen, the first named storm of the season, which brought strong winds to parts of the UK on Friday.

Storm Boelo will bring a danger to life from flying debris and crashing waves and people should stay indoors as much as possible, the Met Office said.

The amber warning sits within wider yellow wind warnings which extend south into parts of England and North Wales and cover the whole of Northern Ireland.
